Rockwell Riders Attire

Rockwell Riding Academy training

Riding attire is part of staying safe & comfortable in the saddle. Drawing on generations of experience training horses and riders, this guide covers your basic needs for lessons and shows.

Helmet

Black velvet is preferred for show. Going to the store to try one on ensures a perfect fit.

Paddock Boots

Zip-ups with elastic are recommended. Try them on in store for the best fit.

Ariat, Ovation, Tuff Rider, Kerrits

Riding Pants

Kentucky Saddleseat Jodhpurs.

Gloves

Tight fit. Warm for winter. Solid black for show.

Under Passes

Under passes are worn while riding to hold the pant leg down — they go over the boot. Freedman Jods come with them; Kerrits do not, so plan to add them.

Hair

Tie hair back in a low ponytail, braid, or bun so the helmet fits properly.

Preparing for Conditions

Bring water in the summer. Dress warm in layers for the cold.
